Quick Tips
Getting the most from your candle is as simple as following a few easy steps:
- Trim wick to 1/4"-3/8" prior to each burn session
- To prevent tunneling on first use, burn the candle for 2-4 hours until a full melt-pool forms to the edge of the vessel
- A carbon cap may form during long burns, simply extinguish, trim the wick and relight
- Place candles away from drafts, vents, and open windows to maintain a steady flame
First Burn Tips
The first burn helps set the "memory" of your candle. When you light a candle for the first time, allowing the candle to burn for a period long enough to generate a full melt pool can go a long way toward ensuring your candle burns consistently and evenly over its life. For our candles, this is roughly 2-4 hours, depending on your environment.
Wick Trimming
Trim the wick to around 1/4"-3/8" before each burn session. Your personal preference can determine what size flame you prefer, but extinguish and retrim the wick if the flame becomes dangerous or unstable. Trimming prior to every burn will ensure the best performance over the life of the candle.
If your candle fails to develop a full melt pool on first burn, the usual culprit is a wick that has been trimmed a bit too small. A smaller flame may take longer to fill the vessel with a full melt pool. If this happens, our coconut-apricot wax should slide down as the candle burns and self-correct with time. To prevent this on future candles, we recommend trimming the wick a bit longer to ensure a strong, even flame.
Safe Candle Burning
Any lit candle can be dangerous if unattended. Here are a few easy safety tips to follow while burning your new candles:
- Keep candles out of reach of children and pets
- Place candles on a stable, heat-resistant surface (like a coaster) away from flammable materials
- If the flame becomes unstable, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and relight.
- If the wick shifts during burning, extinguish the flame and recenter while the wax is still soft
- Candles may be hot to touch after long burn sessions, be careful handling
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
